How do you treat your newly bought Orchids?
We usually advice our online cusomers who are based in various parts of India the following

  • On the day of arrival of the orchids treat them as you would treat your guests!
  • Place them where you can watch them for 2 weeks. This is the time usually needed for the plant to get used to the new climate
  • Initially water the plant thouroughly
  • Avoid direct sunlight at any cost. Slowly introduce plants into the brightness
  • Examine the plants regularly for any infection. Keep them seperate from other palnts if possible for 1 week
  • Think about the plants life history and be sensible. The plant must have come from a high humidity place like Kerala. It must have taken a flght and gone through pressure and temperature variations. Give them the space and time to get fresh. Keep them homely as much as possible. They will get used to your home faster than you think!
  • The orchid can change its personality at the new place. Their blooming cycle may shift from its usual and sometimes produce flowers of different colours due to the change in the sunlight and temperature.
  • The new orchid needs to potted in a medium which is consistent for the conditions of your place. Hence receiving plants which are not potted helps to assess the roots and reestablish in a new environment
  • Try to use neutral, organic (coconut fibers) or inorganic (coal) materials as the potting mix in the first place to avoid discomfort for new orchids
